Description

If the end face finish is acceptable, the VFL can be attached to a fiber connector. During this testing, the VFL should not be viewed directly. Typically, the light emitted by the optical fiber will illuminate the buffer that surrounds the optical fiber. The Visual Fault Locator (VFL), like the continuity tester, is an essential instrument in any fiber optic tool kit. The VFL is not one of the cheapest instruments in your toolbox. Function You can diagnose and repair simple fiber link problems with Fluke Networks' VisiFault TM Visual Fault Locator (VFL). The laser-powered VisiFault Visual Fault Locator is a cable continuity tester that locates fibers, verifies cable continuity and polarity. This cable continuity tester helps find breaks in cables, connectors and splices. Continuous and flashing modes make for easier identification. Compatible with 2.5mm and 1.25mm connectors for easy connection. Ruggedly constructed for demanding field-testing. This visual fault locator has a long battery life for hours of use.

The VFL enables the operator to view the optical fiber break. The optical fiber may break in places other than fiber optic cables. Inside the connector or connector ferrule, the optical fiber may break. A microscope cannot see the optical fiber unless it is damaged at the end face of the connection. The VFL directs laser light into the core of the optical fiber. The laser’s light exits the optical fiber at a break or macro bend. Use the VFL button to turn on the visual fault locator (see picture below). Or, on the home screen tap TOOLS, then tap Visual Fault Locator (VFL). You can tap the PULSE/OFF/CW (continuous wave) button on the screen to change the modes of the VFL, or use the button as shown in the picture below. You can diagnose fiber link problems over fiber optic cables or fiber cable pigtails using visual fault locators. When the fiber fault locator is designed with adapter incompatible with your connector type, using additional adapters is necessary. The fiber distance spec tells the longest fiber length where you can still see the leakage light without difficulty. This spec is determined by the laser light power. The industry standard spec is 10km for multimode fibers and 5km for single mode fibers. FS high power 30mW fiber optic fault locator enables up to 15km dynamic distance. Output powerVisual Fault Locator which can be also called visual fault identifier (VFI), fiber fault locator, fiber fault detector, etc, is a visible laser available in red laser light and designed to inject visible light energy into an optical fiber. It is a cost-effective way to spot defects of fiber glass such as sharp bends, breaks, faulty connectors and other faults which will "leak" red or green light visually. It can also locate the fault of OTDR dead zone and make fiber identification from one end to the other end. No matter for installing new fibers or troubleshooting the existing networks, visual fault identifier is a helpful handy kit. Continuous and flashing modes make for easier identification. Compatible with 2.5mm and 1.25mm connectors for easy connection. Ruggedly constructed for demanding field-testing. Human eyes are much more sensitive to blinking light than to a steady light. So visual fault locators provides two operating modes: continuous wave and pulse light. In most cases, fiber optic installation technicians prefer the pulse light mode which turns the laser source on and off in 2Hz or 1Hz frequency. Battery Notice the red glow in the connector ferrule. If the light comes up directly on the other end, it means there is no leakage.

Typically, students join wires that appear wonderful under a microscope but fail continuity testing. When this happens, the most difficult element is detecting which connector contains the optical fiber break. In the absence of a VFL in the classroom, students would have to cut the cable in half and use a continuity tester to locate the faulty connection. You can diagnose and repair simple fibre link problems with Fluke Networks' VisiFault™ Visual Fault Locator (VFL). See connectors that have damaged fibers inside. A damaged fiber inside a connector causes a red light in the connector. Once there is a fault, light will leak out from the cladding and the light will not go through the other end of the cable. The Visual Fault Locator is available in different shapes and sizes. Some may look like a pen, others may be built into an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and some may look like a small test equipment box. Pen-Type Visual Fault Locator
