Somebody Swallowed Stanley - Teaching Ideas Somebody Swallowed Stanley - Teaching Ideas

A beautifully illustrated picture book with a powerful message about the carbon cycle from environmental expert Sarah Roberts. Somebody Swallowed Stanley addressed the problem of plastic waste in the oceans, and Somebody Crunched Colin looked at the issues of the careless disposal of crips packets. Make a recycling diary for your home to record the different types (and amounts) of waste that you recycle in a week.Sarah’s latest book, Somebody Woke Wilson, looks at a more complex topic – the need to keep carbon under ground. The second book in the series, ' Somebody Crunched Colin' was illustrated by Hannah Jayne Peck and published in 2022. There is a happy ending, and a nice reminder that just because Colin gets put in a special bin, it doesn’t mean that’s the end of his usefulness. Explore our pick of the best children's books in February 2022 – from thrilling escape rooms to the surprising adventures of a crisp packet, there's something for every reader to enjoy!

Somebody Crunched Colin lesson plans – FREE Early Years

With World Book Day just around the corner, bring some literacy-themed fun into your classroom or early years setting with our exciting range of resources and articles focused on books! Stanley's adventures have been used to help children from all over the world to understand the environmental threats posed by plastic pollution. The book was partnered with Keep Britain Tidy's Great Big School Clean and read by me in Parliament. She talked all about 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley', her wildlife adventures and how children can help protect the planet ( visit Sarah's blog to watch). This can make them ill if they try and eat them, or which can cause distress if they get caught inside or the litter gets in their fur, feathers or limbs. It was read by actor Tom Hardy on Cbeebies Bedtime Stories and is available to purchase in all good book retailers. Most jellyfish have dangly-gangly tentacles, but Stanley has two handles…Other jellyfish have a magical glow, but Stanley has stripes… Because Stanley (spoiler alert) is a plastic bag!
